One wheel fun day & Red square

Room 1 (years 7 & 8) organised and ran a very successful unicycle workshop day, which was open to people from other schools in the district. There was all sorts of activities, catering for everybody- learners workshops, uni hockey, jousting, trials and time trials. It ran very smoothly, and was fun for everyone who participated. Thanks Room 1!

Earlier this term our whole school travelled to Nelson and performed as part of the Nelson arts festival on their 'Red square' stage. We sang some cool songs- including one from KISS, and basically rocked Trafalgar street! Some people did a routine on their Unicylcles, and then we all went for a swim at the aquatic centre.

Room 5 Camp

Our class of year 5 & 6 students had an awesome time on camp at Mokihinui on the West Coast. We had heaps of fun, swimming, learning about coalmines, visits to Denniston & Coaltown whitebaiting, making huts, having guy fawkes on the beach and even finished off by jetboating and doing the comet line at the Buller swingbridge!

We met Tamati for coffee at Kaiteriteri, we had our Pets day- you can see Rosie and her 'Best in show' stylish lamb.

We have 6 amazing athletes who all got placed first, second or third in their age groups out of the whole Motueka district!

WOW! Can't believe the term is over already. We have been doing some awesome stuff here as usual. Our whole school PrEP market was yesterday and went really well- most companies sold out of stock! Overall it was a highly successful project- everyone was learning a lot- including all the teachers. We have a lot of enterprising and innovative students- look out for them in the future.

We are hard back at work already. We have lots of new friendly faces in our classes which is great. Our whole school is hard at work with PrEP- thats the Primary Enterprise Programme- where students set up and run their own businesses. It is our first year doing this, and we are all learning lots and having fun. We are looking forward to our Market Day in April.

Our Book & Country fair

On Saturday 1st November we had our Book and country fair- it was awesome! We had Horse rides, Bouncy castle, Devonshire teas, Cafe, Candy floss, and HEEEEAAPPSSS of books!

We made over $6000!! Thanks to everyone who worked hard, and all our customers.

Our whole school was involved in our production- 'Kids at Sea- Sinbad sails again' it was a raging success- everyone who came enjoyed it, and we had heaps of fun learning and performing the songs, dances and acting.

Motueka Winter Sports tournament

On Tuesday 16th September, Motueka-Tasman schools had a cracker day for the annual winter sports tournament. Our school had 1 hockey team, 1 soccer team, 1 netball team and 2 rugby teams. Everyone played their best and had a really fun (but exhausting!)day. Here are some pics

Our Class Auction

This is something we can bid on in the auction. We keep the things on our auction to to look at through the year. We are not allowed to touch them or we will get a fine.

We have an auction at the end of the year. The idea is to earn money by doing jobs, doing well at school. Miss R gives us pretend money that we can spend at the auction. We can bid on cool stuff like an MP3 player, pencils, pencil case, rugby cards and stuff like that.

That is me with the GK bib on. The GK is only allowed to stand in the circle and we are allowed up to the first white line. We had a really fun day at the Motueka Netball Courts at the Rec Centre. We played one game. It took half and hour. We had heaps of supporters.

Brooklyn Future Ferns had their last game. They all got ice blocks. The ice blocks were yummy. Everybody loved eating them.

We lost the netball game against a team that had won all their games. Lower Moutere is really good team. Everybody had a great term playing netball and we want to thank Emma. She rocks.

On Daffodil Day everyone who wore yellow went up on stage and the ones with most yellow they got a yellow pen- the pen had thumbs up for good going on them. Everyone brought some money along to fundraise for the Cancer Society.

Liam, Alex and James ran as fast as they could. We ran in ages groups and did different lengths of track. The older kids ran two kilometres. I thought it was easy. I did actually stop but I tried to keep on running. I walked sometimes. We came first equal out of all the girls. I got a certificate and an ice-block. I am going to the Nelson for the inter-school cross country at Saxton Field.

On last Friday which was Daffodil Day as well, we had a fun run at Kina Peninsula. It was fun. We had fun three legged races at the end and a great egg throw. I said, "Man- my egg must have been hard boiled cos it bounced."

On of the eggs landed on someone's else head and it went all over his face. It was funny to look at but the kid didn't think it was funny to be covered with egg.

Here is Connor coming down from the T Bar. The T bar helps you get up the hill. You have to get off it at the top. It takes you ten minutes to get up and four minutes to get down the mountain.

On August 5-8 Room Five went on camp to Lake Rotoiti. This is Nari having a great time in the snow. For camp we had two great days in the snow. We had the best two days in the whole month. After we left it had a big pile of snow and the ski-field got closed.

Life Education Trust

On the 24th and 25th June, the Life Education classroom came to Brooklyn. Room 5 were the first class to go in. Helen taught us about body parts like the brain. We saw Harold the giraffe, he was 5 years old. We each got a book, it was blue with Harold on the cover. We listened to Harold's favourite song, then we said "BYE!" to Harold.

Years 4- 8 were lucky enough to go sailing this week with Darren from 'Have a go sailing'.

We had to capsize our optimists-that means making the boat tip over.It was a lot of fun.

The weather was really awesome, there were lots of great sailors.

Da Vinci's paddle boat model, it took 20 to 40 people to row.
It has no sail because if the wind was going the wrong it would take longer to get to the place you want to go.

Room One and Five went to the Da Vinci Exhibition at the Nelson Museum. Da Vinci designed flying machines and he loved nature. The model shows one of Da Vinci's machines that didn't work. Da Vinci wanted people to be able to fly like a bird.

Room 3's awesome assembly

On Friday the 14th, Room 3 (year 0-2) put on a great assembly to share what they have been doing in class.

It might look like you are seeing double in these photos, but sitting at the back of the stage are not real people- they are life-size models each child made of themselves!

They sang us the Teddy Bear's Picnic song with actions.
They showed us a great African dance-awesome moves!

We also saw some fantastic Rainbow fish, and learned a lot from their facts about the ocean- Did you know that sharks have another layer of teeth behind their first set- ready in case any get broken or fall out?! That would be handy.
Near the end of the assembly, Mr Woodley presented the Achievement Star awards for the week. These are special awards to acknowledge particularly high achievement, the stars have their photos displayed in the office, and get a special letter home. Well done Luke, Jesse and Liana!

Luke got his star for outstanding results in the listening PAT, Jesse got hers for fantastic reading results and Liana got her star for high achievement in all the recent tests, including Reading, Listening, Maths and Spelling! Well done Stars!

We will have to update this blog with the past Stars as well, keep looking out for updates.

Interschool Swimmimg Sports

On Tuesday 4th March, a team of 13 Brooklyn swimmers went to compete at the Motueka Interschool swimming champs. Everyone did really well, with lots of Brooklyn swimmers in close races, and quite a few finals! Loads of beautiful swimming and excellent behaviour. Well done to all those who participated.
